Sonic, Mega Man and Tetris invade Fortnite as new season trailer reveals hacking theme

Epic Games has released the gameplay trailer for Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, titled "Override," carrying the tagline "Break the Rules, Change the Game." The season launches Thursday, August 20, 2026, across mobile, PC, and console platforms, following scheduled server downtime.
Rather than a corrupted cyberspace theme, the story centers on hacking the island's systems and stopping the antagonist Geno, who returns alongside Doctor Eggman. A new Match Hack system and a large spire replacing the Zero Point are part of the map overhaul, and the trailer ends with Jonesy waking from his coma, hinting at a bigger story beat ahead. The update follows Fortnite Unstable, a live event on August 15 that closed out Chapter 7 Season 3.
Sonic the Hedgehog leads the Season 4 roster, with Shadow, Tails, and Doctor Eggman also appearing. A Green Hill Zone point of interest recreates the classic Sonic stage, complete with collectible Rings. Players can equip a Spin Dash Mythic item that lets them curl into a ball and move across the map at speed. Epic has not detailed slope climbing or other specific movement mechanics beyond that.
Mega Man joins the roster with a Mega Buster Mythic weapon, shown replacing Jonesy's standard blaster in the trailer. Epic has not confirmed Mega Man's robot companion Rush as part of the crossover. Tetris also appears, with Tetromino blocks visible falling in the background of the season's key art. Established characters from previous seasons, including Peter Griffin, Solid Snake, and Master Chief, are expected to remain available in the item shop, though Epic has not confirmed all returning characters.
The new season introduces a Battle Pass with 100 tiers, offering unlockable skins, emotes, and V-Bucks. The pass includes Sonic, Shadow, Tails, Doctor Eggman, and Mega Man as unlockable characters, with additional styles and accessories available through bonus rewards. Epic has not disclosed the exact price of the Battle Pass, but it is expected to follow the standard 950 V-Bucks cost for premium access.
Epic Games has also announced a series of in-game events tied to the season, including a Sonic-themed race mode and a Mega Man boss fight challenge. The Tetris collaboration will introduce a limited-time mode where players can clear lines of blocks for loot drops. The season is expected to run for approximately 10 weeks, ending in late October 2026.
