PixelVision AV1000 MKII: A Retro Monitor That Packs a 2K iPad Display and Every Input Imaginable

RetroBuiltGames has unveiled what he calls "the perfect multi-input display for retro gaming and vintage computing" — the PixelVision AV1000 MKII. While perfection is subjective, the project combines retro aesthetics with modern hardware in a way that's tailored to the creator's specific needs.

The monitor's core is a 9.7-inch iPad display with 2K resolution, offering unusually high pixel density for a retro-focused build. The design draws inspiration from the Amiga 1000 monitor and a tiny tilting Sony CRT TV, blending nostalgia with sharp visuals. The multi-input capability comes from a Retrotink clone, whose PCB sits in a bulge on the back of the unit. That bulge could also house a single-board computer for an all-in-one emulation station. Two decent speakers are mounted on the sides.

The project emphasizes design for manufacturing (DFM), a rare focus in such DIY builds. The 3D-printed case is engineered for easy replication, and all STEP files and PCBs are available on GitHub. The author notes that the monitor is perfect for his own use case, but the detailed build video and open-source files allow others to adapt the design for their own setups. The unit already supports a wide range of inputs, making it versatile for both retro gaming and vintage computing.
