Clicks Power Keyboard for $99 brings physical typing to any phone, with a few catches

Clicks Technology has started shipping its new $99 MagSafe-compatible Power Keyboard, and 75% of the first batch of preorders have already reached customers after initial delays. The slide-out keyboard features tactile buttons and fits phones of various sizes, working in both portrait and landscape modes, promising a BlackBerry-like typing feel on any device.

The accessory serves as a teaser for the upcoming Clicks Communicator smartphone, also equipped with a physical keyboard, slated for release later this year. Like that phone, the Power Keyboard aims to offer an alternative to on-screen typing for those who miss the speed and reliability of small physical keys. However, in its current form, it shares a flaw with the company's earlier Clicks keyboard case: the phone feels top-heavy and awkward to hold in portrait mode, especially with larger models like the iPhone 17 Pro Max or Pixel 10 XL used in testing.

The device itself is well-crafted and may appeal to those longing for their BlackBerry days. Unboxing reveals premium packaging with protective films to prevent scratches during shipping and a full-color quick-start guide. The battery may need charging via USB-C, though the test unit arrived with a charge. To pair via Bluetooth, users hold the power button and slide out the keyboard.

Pairing with an Android phone went smoothly, but switching to an iPhone proved tricky: even after "forgetting" the device on Android, it refused to connect. The issue was user error — pressing a number key along with the power button adds a second Bluetooth device. The only way to truly remove a device is through the Clicks mobile app. The keyboard attaches via MagSafe or Qi2, with an adhesive ring or compatible case available for phones lacking those technologies.
