Paramount promises 30 films a year and 45-day theatrical window to secure Warner Bros. merger

Paramount has sent major theater chains written commitments to release 30 films annually for three years if its deal with Warner Bros. Discovery goes through. According to Deadline, the document was received by at least one of the top two circuits — Regal — with AMC possibly having received a similar letter as well.

The commitments include an exclusive 45-day theatrical window and a 90-day period before films move to streaming. Regal boss Eduardo Acuna told the outlet that Paramount CEO David Ellison is sincere about these promises and has offered to sign a consent decree with state attorneys general. He described the commitments as tangible, measurable, and important for the industry.

Inside Paramount, sources say no written guarantees have been handed to exhibitors yet. Ellison, according to insiders, is willing to offer identical terms to any theater chain that asks, and breaking such agreements would trigger financial penalties for the studio. The same points were previously voiced by the CEO at CinemaCon.

The rest of Cinema United, the theater owners' association, remains firmly opposed to the Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger. The group fears reduced film output, long-term box office declines, and job losses. Cinema United has tried to schedule another meeting with Ellison, but nothing has been set so far.
