Oura Ring 5 gets slimmer and lighter at $399, but subscription remains

The new Oura Ring 5 is thinner and lighter than its predecessor, keeping all core features and a week of battery life. However, full access to the data still requires a monthly subscription, which may put off some buyers.

The device is now available through the manufacturer's website, as well as Amazon and Best Buy. Black and silver finishes cost $399, while Brushed Silver, Gold, Stealth, and Deep Rose versions are priced at $499. Sizes six through thirteen are currently offered, though the Oura Ring 4 covers a wider range from four to fifteen. The company recommends ordering a sizing kit before purchase.

The companion app requires a subscription of $6 per month or $70 per year. Without it, users only see basic daily scores, while deeper analytics, advice, and the AI chatbot remain locked. Alternatives include the RingConn Gen 3 at $350 with no mandatory subscription, the $479 Ultrahuman Ring Pro, where only some features require payment, as well as the $400 Samsung Galaxy Ring and the more affordable $100 Google Fitbit Air.

The ring weighs from two grams and is made of titanium. It packs heart rate sensors with red, green, and infrared LEDs, a temperature sensor, and an accelerometer. Water resistance is rated at 100 meters with an IP68 classification. A full charge takes 80 minutes, and the battery lasts six to nine days.

Automatic workout detection and exercise modes work flawlessly, and the design is less noticeable on the finger. The refreshed look is the main difference from the previous model, giving Oura Ring 4 owners little reason to upgrade. During testing that lasted over a month, no issues with measurement accuracy or build quality surfaced.
