Nothing OS 5.0 launches August 25: which phones get Android 17 first

Nothing has officially confirmed that it will unveil its new Nothing OS 5.0 firmware next week. The presentation is scheduled for August 25 at 11:00 AM British time (1:00 PM Moscow time). During the event, the company plans to showcase the key improvements and announce the release timeline for the update.

According to Gizmochina, the company is moving faster than last year: Nothing OS 4.0 was presented on September 16, while the new version arrives at least three weeks earlier. This shift in the calendar typically indicates that Nothing is confident in the readiness of the new firmware and wants to roll it out before the autumn season of competitor releases.

Nothing has not yet disclosed the specific features of Nothing OS 5.0, but the company's custom skin traditionally emphasizes a minimalist design, proprietary widgets, and deep integration with accessories like headphones. The firmware is expected to be based on Android 17, meaning users will receive both cosmetic changes and system-level improvements from Google.

The list of devices eligible for Nothing OS 5.0 has not been published yet. However, based on last year's logic, the update should cover all current models: the Nothing Phone (2a), Phone (2), Phone (1), and possibly the CMF sub-brand. The exact lineup will be announced at the presentation. The company has not yet confirmed whether the update will be available for the budget-friendly CMF Phone 1.
