Kia EV2 tops 8,000 sales in three months — Europe’s new budget EV favorite

Kia's entry-level electric SUV is off to a strong start in Europe. In its first three full months on sale, from May through July 2026, the EV2 racked up over 8,000 deliveries, bringing first-half sales to 8,567 units. Orders opened in April, and early demand suggests the compact crossover has found its audience.

Pricing plays a big role. In Germany, the EV2 starts at €26,600, with lease deals from just €199 per month. UK buyers can order the Air long edition from £24,245 after the government's £3,750 Electric Clean Car Grant is applied.

The EV2 is already shaking up Kia's own lineup. In June, it became the brand's second-best-selling electric vehicle in Europe, trailing only the larger EV3 SUV. Industry watchers attribute the early momentum to the fact that the EV2 is Kia's first EV designed and built in Europe, giving it a local edge in both pricing and positioning.

Despite its compact footprint — just over 4,000 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, and 1,575 mm tall — the EV2 is smaller than Volkswagen's ID.3 hatchback. Yet Kia claims it offers segment-leading rear passenger legroom and up to 403 liters of cargo space, making it a practical choice for city dwellers.

Inside, the EV2 features Kia's latest ccNC infotainment system, shared with newer models. The setup includes dual 12.3-inch displays for the driver cluster and infotainment, plus a 5-inch climate control screen. A new "Lite" variant comes as standard, retaining the same displays while trimming non-essential features to keep the entry price low.

With strong early sales and competitive pricing, the EV2 looks poised to become a key player in Europe's budget EV segment. Kia's gamble on a locally built, small electric SUV appears to be paying off, and the coming months will show whether it can sustain the pace.
