GTA VI leak: 84% of fans believe dataminer's "first minute" footage is real — here's why

A video claiming to show the first gameplay footage of Grand Theft Auto VI has surfaced online, sparking a heated debate among fans. The clip, released by a dataminer known as cyberleek, lasts about one minute and features Jason — one of the two protagonists of the upcoming game — leaving his house and playing basketball alone.
The video quality is low, making it difficult to assess the graphics in detail. However, many viewers have pointed out that the animations, particularly the landing after a jump, appear almost identical to those in GTA V. The overall movement lacks the depth expected from a next-generation title, leading to widespread skepticism about the clip's authenticity.
Several theories have emerged to explain the footage. It could be a high-quality hoax created by someone familiar with game engines, or a deliberate joke. Another possibility is that the video is a fragment of the "Extended Look at GTA 6" event scheduled for August 27 on Netflix.
Despite the doubts, a poll on Resetera shows that 84.7% of participants believe the footage is genuine. The same dataminer previously shared screenshots of the in-game map, though their authenticity also remains unverified.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
