Grounded 2 gets massive underwater update and launches on PS5

Surviving in a miniature park has reached a new level: Obsidian Entertainment has released the biggest update yet for Grounded 2, adding a vast pond as a fresh play area. The patch, titled Into the Abyss, is now live across all platforms, including the long-awaited PlayStation 5 version.

Exploring the underwater territory demands serious preparation: the deeper players go, the more dangerous the environment becomes and the more resources it consumes. According to the developers, what first appears as a familiar pond quickly opens into a sprawling space with surprising verticality, hidden routes, and new points of interest. Beyond the shoreline, players can also venture into surrounding areas like the Bayou and the Mountains, while the boldest can descend into the Abyss itself.

Surviving below the surface requires a diving suit that must be upgraded as players access deeper parts of the region. Obsidian notes that the pond unlocks an entirely new gameplay loop with its own progression system, resources, and even building materials for constructing bases entirely underwater. This is not the only addition: the game now features an underwater combat system, new water-based predators to fight, and an amphibious buggy called the Toe Biter that serves as an underwater mount.

Additionally, the update includes an improved fast travel system, a new mystery questline, and the return of ziplines. The full patch notes, detailing all new creatures, weapons, buildings, and important bug fixes, are available in the official release notes.

The update coincides with the game's arrival on a new platform. The long-promised PlayStation 5 version is now available, with new explorers joining over 30 million players who have already played Grounded 2 on Xbox and PC. The project has been in early access for just over a year, and developers have gradually opened up more parts of the park since launch.
