Google brings insulin resistance tracking to Pixel Watch without a blood sample
Google has introduced Health Guardian, a new set of proactive health and safety tools coming to the Google Health app on Pixel Watch and Fitbit Air devices. The suite is designed to detect subtle shifts in the body that usually go unnoticed and turn them into clear guidance for users.
Health Guardian works in the background around the clock, monitoring wellness indicators that are typically invisible. The data is compiled into a monthly summary within the Google Health app, highlighting the most significant changes. If a feature detects something that needs attention, the user receives a timely notification. The Google Health Coach assistant helps interpret the results and suggests practical lifestyle adjustments.
One of the headline additions is Insulin Resistance Trends. It analyzes multi-week physiological data to identify patterns in insulin resistance, a condition where the body becomes less efficient at absorbing energy from food. Google estimates that roughly 40% of adults are unaware of such changes, even though prolonged insulin resistance can harm metabolic health. Notably, the feature requires no blood sample.
The second tool, Blood Pressure Trends, tracks changes in blood pressure over time. According to the company, six in ten people fail to notice when their blood pressure rises. The watch measures pulse and movement patterns throughout the month to estimate pressure trends without a cuff or manual calibration. This helps users spot persistent elevated readings that could affect heart and kidney health.
The suite also includes Heart Rhythm and Heart Rate Notifications, which alert users to irregular heartbeats or unusually high and low pulse rates, and Safety Check, which automatically notifies selected contacts if the user remains unresponsive or motionless for a set period.
Google has not yet announced exact release dates. The company says Health Guardian will arrive on compatible Pixel Watch and Fitbit Air models through future updates.
