Final Fantasy VII Revelation Could Still Launch Before April 2027 Despite Square Enix's Frozen Forecast

Square Enix has kept its full-year forecast unchanged, but that does not rule out a launch of Final Fantasy VII Revelation before March 31, 2027. The release of the first-quarter financial report brought no adjustments to expectations: the company still projects revenue of 298 billion yen, a mere 0.1% increase over the previous fiscal year.
Such a conservative forecast could indicate that the third installment of the Final Fantasy VII remake will not arrive before the end of the current fiscal year. A simultaneous multiplatform release is expected to generate significant sales, and including it in the results would substantially alter the numbers. However, under Japanese accounting standards (J-GAAP), Square Enix typically refrains from revising forecasts at this stage, leaving room for a March 2027 launch.
Earlier, at the Summer Game Fest showcase, the company confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will arrive in spring 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. No exact date has been announced, but the spring window covers the period from March to June.
First-quarter financial results were strong: net sales rose 32.3% year-over-year, operating income increased 88.6%, and ordinary income jumped 172.4%. Key drivers were the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, as well as the launch of the HD-2D action RPG Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. The latter received such high praise that a shareholder interrupted the annual meeting to commend it.
The company's report notes that new releases, including the multiplatform launches of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows, as well as Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, performed solidly. Combined with steady growth in catalog sales, this drove year-over-year increases in both net sales and operating profit for the segment.
Thus, while the current forecast hints at a delay of Final Fantasy VII Revelation to the next fiscal year, the final decision will become clear closer to the end of March 2027.
