CoD beta will let players try a campaign mission for the first time ever

Activision and Infinity Ward have announced an unusual change for the upcoming beta test of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. For the first time in franchise history, participants will be able to try not just multiplayer, but also a single-player campaign mission. The level is called Entrenched, and while its details remain under wraps, a trailer has been released showing a snowy location with a large-scale battle unfolding.

The closed beta kicks off right after the Call of Duty NEXT showcase, scheduled for August 21. It will be available to invited bloggers, journalists, influencers, and those who have pre-ordered the game. From August 28 through September 1, the beta will be open to everyone.

Each year, the testing has focused exclusively on online modes, but this time the developers have taken an unexpected step. The campaign mission included in the beta is a first for the series, which has never offered story content during its public tests before.

As for the online portion, players will get eight match types, including the classic 6v6, Team Deathmatch, and Hardpoint. Additionally, the beta introduces Kill Block, a brand-new mode for the franchise that relies on procedurally generated maps, adding an element of unpredictability to each match.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set to launch on October 23 across PC, Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Pre-orders grant early access to the beta, and the full game will be available on multiple storefronts, including Steam, Microsoft Store, and Battle.net.
