Chevrolet offers free EV charging across Peru as sales surge 86% in half a year

General Motors is ramping up its electric vehicle push in Latin America. The automaker announced that Chevrolet EV buyers in Peru will now be able to charge their vehicles for free at dealerships across the country, as the market for plug-in cars continues to expand rapidly.
The decision comes as Peru sees a dramatic increase in electrified vehicle adoption. According to Melisa Black, Marketing Manager at GM Peru, sales of electrified vehicles in the country grew by more than 86 percent in the first half of the year, demonstrating rising consumer interest in these technologies. She emphasized that the progress must be accompanied by more charging infrastructure, which is why GM included the installation of charging points at dealerships selling these models from the very beginning of its launch plan.
In the first six months of the year alone, Chevrolet sold 8,285 plug-in vehicles in Peru. The lineup includes models such as the Chevrolet Captiva and the Spark EUV. Free charging is currently available in most major Peruvian cities, including the capital Lima and others across the country. The initiative is designed to complement the growing public charging network being developed throughout the region.
GM is investing heavily in its global EV expansion. Earlier, the company launched the Cadillac brand in Brazil, South America's largest auto market. In Peru, GM is also focusing on more affordable models, including some derived from Chinese platforms. The free charging program is expected to boost consumer confidence and accelerate the shift toward electric mobility in the region.
