Berlin Senate cuts off two departments after cyberattack — no data leak confirmed yet

The Berlin Senate has been hit by a cyberattack affecting its internal information networks, according to a report by the DPA news agency citing city officials.

The attack targeted the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing, as well as the Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment. To prevent the threat from spreading to other government offices, both departments were immediately disconnected from the Berlin Senate's central network.

An investigation is underway involving the State Criminal Police Office, the Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office, and the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). A special crisis management team has been set up to coordinate the response.

At this stage, authorities have not confirmed any leak of confidential data. A full review is ongoing.

This incident follows earlier reports that a hacker from Kyiv had caused financial damage of three billion hryvnias to Western countries.
