Wireshark 4.6.8 patches 28 vulnerabilities and fixes 16 bugs

The open-source network analyzer Wireshark has received a new stable release, version 4.6.8, dated August 11, 2026. This update continues the 4.6 branch, which was first introduced in October 2025. The project has been around since 2008, when the first stable release 1.0.0 arrived, and its code is distributed under the GPLv2 license.

Builds of Wireshark 4.6.8 are available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The 4.6 series is the current development line, succeeding the 4.4.x branch, which still receives maintenance updates as well.

In this release, developers fixed 16 bugs and patched 28 vulnerabilities discovered during testing. Several of the security flaws could cause crashes in sharkd, the UMTS FP protocol dissector, the RDP dissector, the TTX Logger file parser, the file assembly and analysis engine, the Tektronix K12xx parser, the ERF parser, the Bluetooth attribute protocol dissector, and the Catapult DCT2000 file parser.

Separately, the team addressed errors that led to failures in the C12.22, CMS, H.245, Kerberos, and Bluetooth HFP Profile protocol dissectors. Fixes also cover the 3gpp call log file parser, the BLF Ixia IxVeriWave and Vector Informatik file parsers, and the Pcapng parser.

Beyond crash fixes, the update improves several functions, including JSON nesting in Deep NetLog, ERF recording, K12/RF5 recording, and other components. Protocol support has been refreshed for ANSI_TCAP, ASN.1 BER, ASTERIX, BT ATT, BT AVRCP, BT BR/EDR RF, BT HFP, and C12.22.
