Beeper merges chats with the same person across different messengers into one conversation

Beeper, a service that brings all your messaging apps into one place, has rolled out an update that combines conversations with the same contact from different services into a single thread. Users no longer need to keep track of which app they are using to chat — all messages with one person appear in a single window.

The developers say that Beeper previously solved the problem of gathering contacts from various apps into one interface. The new step is merging chats with one person across multiple networks. One person, multiple networks, one view — that is how the company describes the feature. The goal is to let people communicate without thinking about which messenger is running underneath.

An editor who tested the update has mixed feelings: separate threads can be useful for different contexts of conversation. For instance, messages on Slack and WhatsApp usually differ greatly in content. Still, the new capability looks useful.

In addition, Beeper is introducing customizable backgrounds on Android, message sorting into labels, poll support in select networks, and more languages in the desktop app. Several paid features are temporarily available to free users in a limited form. These include incognito mode for reading messages without read receipts, scheduled sending, voice note transcription into text, reminders for important conversations, and label creation for inbox organization. After the trial period, a Plus subscription is required to continue using them.

The iPhone app also gains CarPlay integration.
