Amazfit Active 3 Premium update adds FTMS rower support and screen lock during workouts

The budget-friendly Amazfit Active 3 Premium smartwatch, currently priced at $170 on Amazon, has received firmware version 6.2.204.3. The update introduces several new capabilities, expanding the feature set of a device that already stands out from rivals with offline map support that works without a smartphone connection.

The key addition is real-time workout metrics from rowing machines that support the FTMS protocol. Owners can now see current power output and distance covered directly on the display. Pool swimmers get an improved tracking algorithm and the ability to manually log rest intervals.

The firmware also includes a feature to permanently lock the touchscreen during a workout. This is a practical option, as sweat on hot summer runs can easily trigger accidental inputs. The changelog mentions improved map functionality along with various bug fixes and system optimizations.

As usual, the company has not specified when the update will reach all users, as the rollout may be staged. The watch is positioned as a more affordable alternative to newer Garmin Forerunner models, which come at a significantly higher price.
