007 First Light sells 4 million units in 3 months, sequel confirmed by IO Interactive

IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios have announced that 007 First Light has sold over 4 million copies in the first three months since its release. This milestone makes the action-adventure shooter one of the fastest-selling premium games of 2026.

The companies highlighted that the sales figures reflect strong global demand for the title. The game's commercial and critical success, combined with an upcoming launch on Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, underscores the enduring appeal of the James Bond franchise. The debut positions 007 First Light as a major hit in the 2026 gaming landscape, reinforcing IO Interactive's reputation as a top-tier developer.

However, the studio has faced a setback: Microsoft withdrew support for IO Interactive's upcoming online action RPG, Project Fantasy. The Danish studio is now funding the project independently.

Earlier this year, there was uncertainty about whether Amazon MGM Studios, the rights holder for James Bond, would allow IO Interactive to develop a sequel. In early June, Jeff Gattis, the new head of Amazon Gaming, hinted at a possible change of direction. But just a month and a half later, he reversed course and practically confirmed that IO Interactive would remain at the helm for the next Bond game.

IO Interactive is fully committed to expanding 007 First Light during its first year, backed by strong publisher support. The studio plans to deliver additional content and updates, capitalizing on the game's positive reception. With a sequel now in the pipeline, the James Bond gaming franchise looks set for a long and successful run under IO Interactive's stewardship.
