Xiaomi patents rotating dual emblem system for cars, beating Rolls-Royce's single mascot

Xiaomi Auto has filed a patent for a retractable emblem mechanism that goes beyond the iconic Rolls-Royce hood ornament. Unlike the British luxury marque's single rising figure, the Xiaomi design incorporates two separate logos mounted on opposite sides of a rotating assembly. Drivers can alternately raise the emblem that fits the occasion, switching between them as needed.

One of the two emblems could feature a gold or titanium finish, aimed at giving the vehicle a more premium, upscale appearance. The second badge is intended for everyday use and would be made from more mundane materials, making it more practical for regular driving conditions. The mechanism is flexible in its placement: it can be installed on the hood, front and rear bumpers, as well as on the trunk lid.

The patented construction includes a mounting frame with a rotating shaft, the pair of emblems, a guide rail, and an electric actuator. The motor drives a moving element along the guide, causing the logos to alternately rise and lock into their operating positions. When service or replacement is required, the unit can be quickly disassembled without the use of traditional fasteners, simplifying maintenance.

This approach effectively doubles the functionality of a conventional emblem system, offering both a showpiece for special moments and a durable option for daily driving. While Rolls-Royce has long used a single retractable Spirit of Ecstasy, the Xiaomi solution provides two distinct looks in one package, potentially appealing to buyers who want to customize their car's appearance on the fly. The patent suggests Xiaomi is exploring ways to differentiate its vehicles in a crowded EV market, adding a touch of theater and personalization that goes beyond typical badge designs.
