X shuts down revenue-sharing program and introduces payouts for original content

Social network X has stopped accepting applications for its previous revenue-sharing program, which will end on September 7. The company is replacing it with a new system called Original Content Rewards, aimed at paying users for creating their own material. The news was reported by Engadget.

Under the new scheme, authors can earn payouts based on the number of qualified views their posts receive. X considers original content to include one's own texts, reports, photographs, videos, memes, and illustrations. Earning from other people's material is also allowed, but only if the user adds a meaningful comment, analysis, or creatively edits the content. Simple captions or text overlays that merely describe an event will not count as original.

To join the program, users must meet several criteria. They must be at least 18 years old, reside in a country where the program is available, and hold an active Premium, Premium+, or Premium Business subscription. Additionally, they need at least 500 confirmed followers and a minimum of 500,000 impressions in the home feed from verified users over the past 90 days. These requirements must be maintained continuously to keep receiving payments.

Those already in the old revenue-sharing program will need to reapply for the new system after September 8, when it becomes available. New users can submit applications right now.

In March, X updated its previous program, placing greater emphasis on engagement with users in one's home region. That decision followed the discovery of numerous accounts posing as American users while actually located outside the US. It remains unclear whether the new program will adopt a similar geographic policy.
