The Guild 1 Remake renames at the last minute, Steam Early Access launches September 17

THQ Nordic and developer Ashborne Games have announced a last-minute rename for their upcoming medieval RPG-strategy title. Previously known as The Guild: Europa 1410, the game is now officially called The Guild 1 Remake: Europa 1410. The Steam Early Access release remains scheduled for September 17 as originally planned.

The developers explained that the name change reflects a shift in how the project is positioned. Originally announced as a new entry in the long-running franchise, the game is now described as a spiritual successor or even a remake of the first title, which launched back in 2007. However, technically it is not a direct remake but rather a standalone game built on the foundations of the original.

According to the studio, the new title better captures the essence of the experience. The Guild 1 Remake: Europa 1410 is rooted in the economic simulation principles established by the very first game in the series. The core gameplay revolves around carefully planned business strategies, dynasty management, ruthless entrepreneurship, and political intrigue.

The developers noted that many fans discovered the series through The Guild 2 and The Guild 3, which are colorful life simulators filled with personal drama, romance, and character-driven storytelling. Both of those games are excellent in their own right, the studio said, but Europa 1410 was never intended to follow the same path. The new name, they argue, makes the concept clear to players immediately — even before they click the "add to wishlist" button.
