TCL NXTPAPER Note A1 blends a tablet and e-reader — and it's surprisingly useful

The TCL NXTPAPER Note A1 is a hybrid device that combines a digital notebook, an e-reader, and some tablet functionalities. Initially, its purpose seemed questionable, but after a week of use, it revealed itself as a surprisingly essential tool.
The package includes the T-Pen Pro stylus, a folio case with magnetic attachment, and a USB-C cable. No power adapter is included in the box.
The case is made of pleasant faux leather and feels solid, but it cannot be folded into a triangle stand like an iPad case. However, the Note A1 can be propped up by leaning it against the open lid — the setup is unexpectedly stable even on a smooth surface. That said, the manufacturer clearly didn't intend this scenario: in this position, the magnetic stylus holder is inaccessible, and the T-Pen can only be placed on top, where it holds less securely and doesn't charge.
The magnetic stylus attachment is generally weak — the T-Pen Pro holds much worse than the Apple Pencil on an iPad. A light brush of the hand is enough to shift or drop the stylus. This happened several times during testing, so relying on the magnet for carrying is not advisable.
Based on promotional materials, TCL does not position the Note A1 as a device meant to stand vertically. In notebook mode, it's typically held in hand, and for that purpose, the gadget works well.
