Ring Spotlight Cam 2nd gen launches at $169 with 2K video and dual-battery slot

Ring has introduced the second-generation Spotlight Cam, an outdoor security camera with a 2K sensor and room for a second battery. It went on sale June 3, 2026 at $169, with both battery-powered and plug-in versions available; solar and wired models are expected to follow later.

2K resolution is no longer a standout feature in the security camera market, as many competing home devices now record in 4K. Still, compared to its predecessor, the new model delivers a sharper image and allows closer digital zoom on details. Low-light performance has also been improved, and the spotlights are brighter.

The camera keeps the cylindrical design with a black insert housing the lens, infrared sensors, and microphone, flanked by two LED strips. The bottom twists off to reveal the battery compartment: one battery is included, but there is space for a second, sold separately for $50. The field of view spans 140 degrees horizontally and 85 degrees vertically, with spotlights rated at 550 lumens. The device operates between -20°C and 50°C, carries an IP65 weather resistance rating, and connects over Wi-Fi 4 at 2.4 GHz.

There are notable caveats, however. Saving footage requires a paid Ring subscription, without which the camera offers little value. Video quality also falls short of the flagship Floodlight Cam, which launched alongside it at $199 and also features a 2K sensor but adds two 2000-lumen floodlights — albeit in a wired-only configuration.

Reviewers note that for those already invested in the Ring ecosystem, the new Spotlight Cam is a sensible choice. But owners of previous-generation models may want to hold off: the upgrade is modest, and older units could offer better value for now.
