Redmi Note 17 to pack 7-inch AMOLED display and 8,000 mAh battery: Xiaomi's India roadmap leaks

A tipster has revealed the launch roadmap for Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones in India through the end of this year. According to the leak, the Redmi 17 series will hit shelves on September 5, followed by the Redmi Note 17 Pro lineup, scheduled for September 18 or 20. The flagship Xiaomi 18 Pro series is expected to arrive in India by December.
Notably, last year's Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max were sold exclusively in China. This year, however, the company appears to have shifted its strategy: earlier hints suggested a global debut for the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, extending beyond just China and India.
The Redmi Note series has traditionally been known for its strong price-to-performance ratio, combining premium features with affordable pricing. But this year, the Redmi Note 17 has been hit by the ongoing memory crisis, forcing the manufacturer to trim some specs compared to its predecessor.
The device sports a more modern design with flat edges, a flat screen, and a simplified rear camera module. Three color options are available: black, light blue, and purple. The handset is quite large, which may be uncomfortable for those with smaller hands, yet the weight and thickness remain reasonable, especially given the battery capacity.
The Redmi Note 17's display has grown significantly — it's now a 7-inch AMOLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Resolution stays roughly the same as before, but the flat construction accentuates the bezels, which look thicker, especially at the bottom. Despite modest claimed specs, the screen remains quite bright. An optical fingerprint scanner is embedded at the bottom.
Audio is handled by a single bottom-firing speaker, which unfortunately doesn't sound great. Performance comes from the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset — based on initial impressions, the device handles everyday tasks without issues, though benchmark results haven't been shared yet.
