Qatar Airways equips 150 planes with Starlink, first Boeing 787-9 gets onboard internet

Qatar Airways has become the world's first airline to operate a wide-body Boeing 787-9 equipped with Starlink satellite internet. The carrier has also completed the installation of the system across its entire fleet of Boeing 787-8 aircraft, bringing the total number of wide-body planes with Starlink to 150.

The company plans to finish installing Starlink on all Boeing 787 aircraft by the end of 2026. Previously, Qatar Airways set records by equipping its entire Boeing 777 fleet in nine months and the Airbus A350 fleet in eight months. The airline now operates the world's largest fleets of Boeing 777, Airbus A350, and Boeing 787 aircraft with Starlink support.

Passengers can use free Wi-Fi with speeds of up to 500 Mbps. The internet connection allows for work, communication, streaming, and other tasks almost as seamlessly as on the ground.

Since the launch of Starlink onboard in October 2024, more than 23 million passengers have used the service on over 86,000 Qatar Airways flights. The program to equip wide-body aircraft is now more than 83% complete, and the airline operates up to 323 daily flights with Starlink support.
