Old School RuneScape player spent 4,304 hours catching shrimp to max out fishing skill

An Old School RuneScape player named Bosby has reached level 99 in the fishing skill using the least efficient method possible in the game. The grind took 27 months and 4,304 hours of playtime. During that time, his character OnlyShrimp99 caught 275,196 raw shrimp and 257,064 raw anchovies.

Bosby shared his achievement on the /r/2007scape subreddit three days ago. In the post, he admitted that he initially saw the task as a joke but eventually decided to see it through. He started this plan on May 11, 2024. All the caught fish is worth roughly 9.5 million gold at current OSRS market prices.

As the player himself notes, there is no practical benefit to leveling this way — it is just a lot of clicking, with the only reward being the ability to say he did it. Nevertheless, during the grind, Bosby managed to start a new job, get married, and make friends, including "a lot of cool people at the Al Kharid fishing spot."

Once news of the achievement spread on social media, RuneScape developer Jagex congratulated the player. In the company's official X account, it was stated that the team verified his success through its data department. The studio also posted a picture of a shrimp on a computer to mark the occasion. Bosby himself noted that his achievement is getting "entirely too much attention."
