MRCOOL's new heat pump plugs into a standard outlet — no outdoor unit needed

Kentucky-based HVAC manufacturer MRCOOL has introduced an all-in-one heat pump designed to plug into a regular 115-volt wall outlet, eliminating the need for a bulky outdoor condenser unit.

The new MRCOOL Monoblock MTHP is aimed at heating and cooling smaller spaces such as garages, home offices, accessory dwelling units, sunrooms, and tiny homes. It targets homeowners who want zoned climate control but lack the space or permission to install a conventional mini-split system.

What sets the Monoblock apart is that the entire refrigeration circuit is contained within a single wall-mounted enclosure. A standard mini-split consists of an indoor air handler connected to an outdoor condenser via refrigerant lines. The Monoblock combines these components indoors, so there are no refrigerant lines to run and no equipment pad required outside the building.

However, the unit still needs access to an exterior wall. Installation involves cutting two openings through the wall for outdoor air intake and exhaust, plus a smaller hole for condensate drainage. So "plug-and-play" does not mean simply placing it on the floor and connecting the cord — real mounting work is required. The unit weighs about 93 pounds, making it a two-person job in most cases.

Performance is sized for a single room rather than a whole house: the Monoblock delivers 10,000 Btu per hour of cooling and 9,000 Btu per hour of heating. The unit measures roughly 39 inches wide, 23 inches tall, and 8 inches deep.

The inverter-driven compressor modulates its output continuously instead of cycling on and off, which improves efficiency and comfort. MRCOOL rates the system at 15 SEER2 for cooling and 7.5 HSPF2 for heating — respectable figures for a plug-in unit of this class. The product is positioned as a practical solution for homeowners who need supplemental or whole-room climate control without the expense and complexity of a full split system.
