Leaked GTA 6 footage is over a year old, insider confirms — Rockstar hits DMCA

A fresh wave of Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks has surfaced online, with multiple clips of in-game footage and map images spreading rapidly across social media. The videos sparked immediate debate among fans, some questioning whether they were genuine or AI-generated. However, new information suggests the footage is legitimate but much older than many expected.

According to well-known insider NateTheHate, the newly leaked GTA 6 clips are over a year old. He also clarified that the footage is not part of the rumored GTA 6 previews reportedly underway. This distinction is important, as it suggests the leaks come from a much earlier build of the game rather than a recent developer version.

An additional source shared similar findings with Insider Gaming while analyzing one of the leaked basketball videos. The file was reportedly encoded using FFmpeg 6.1, a version released in November 2023. This indicates the video file could have been created in that format from November 2023 onward. However, the encoding date does not necessarily reveal when the original footage was recorded, as the video could have been captured earlier and later converted to a newer format. Based on this evidence, the leaked clips appear to originate from an older build of GTA 6, not the current version of the game. That means the footage may not accurately represent how the game looks or plays today.

Meanwhile, Rockstar Games has already begun taking action against the leaked content. The studio has reportedly been sending DMCA takedown notices to users sharing the in-game footage and map online, causing several posts and clips to disappear from social media platforms. This aggressive response mirrors the studio's previous handling of major leaks, including the massive 2022 GTA 6 leak that exposed early development footage.
