Herman Miller Coyl gaming desk: premium design, premium price — and its best features cost extra

Herman Miller has launched the Coyl Gaming Desk, its first electric standing desk designed specifically for gamers. The desk features a dual-motor height adjustment system and a design that leans more toward a high-end home office than a typical RGB-heavy gaming setup. The only overt gaming cues are subtle red accents on the coiled cable and the cable management tray.
The Coyl is available in a single size only, which limits its appeal to users with specific space requirements. The base desk includes the motorized frame and the tabletop, but the signature look—the metal shroud and the cable management tray—requires purchasing optional accessories. The metal shroud serves as a pegboard-style mounting surface for additional add-ons, but it also completely blocks the use of rear-mounted monitor arms, a significant limitation for many gamers and power users.
One of the standout features is a rotary dial that allows precise, fine-tuned height adjustments, offering a more tactile experience than typical button-based controls. The cable management tray includes a magnetic quick-access lid, making it easy to route and hide cables. The overall build quality is described as rock-solid, with a premium feel that matches the price point.
On the downside, the Coyl Gaming Desk carries a premium price tag that becomes even harder to justify when the necessary accessories are added. The combination of high cost, single-size availability, and the monitor arm compatibility issue prevents it from being a universal recommendation. For design-conscious buyers with a generous budget, the Coyl is a stylish and functional piece of furniture that performs as well as it looks. For the average gamer, however, the value proposition is questionable.
