Ex-NSA chief launches private cybersecurity firm for elite clients — and here's why

Retired U.S. Army General Paul M. Nakasone, former director of the National Security Agency and commander of U.S. Cyber Command, has launched a boutique national security advisory firm called the Nakasone Group. The company will counsel government leaders, corporations, prominent families, and other private clients facing cybersecurity, geopolitical, and personal security risks.
In a LinkedIn announcement, Nakasone stated that after more than three decades in uniform — including leading U.S. Cyber Command and the NSA — he has witnessed how rapidly threats targeting individuals, families, and organizations are evolving. The firm, he said, was built to bring the caliber of security counsel once reserved for the highest levels of government to those navigating today's most complex challenges — quietly, discreetly, and to the highest standard.
Nakasone serves as founder and chairman of the firm, while former Defense Digital Service director Brett Goldstein has been appointed chief executive. The company's services span private cyber defense, family digital security, protection against fraud and impersonation, international travel security, geopolitical and threat intelligence, and tailored briefings for executives.
The cyber defense practice will advise clients on securing home networks, personal devices, digital accounts, connected systems, and online privacy. The firm is positioning these services specifically for influential and high-profile individuals who may face sophisticated threats but lack the security resources typically available within government agencies or large corporations. Nakasone emphasized that the firm operates with discretion, aiming to fill a gap for elite clients who require institutional-grade protection outside of official structures.
