Curiosity photo from Mars shows 'alien' figure — skeptics debunk the viral mystery

A Mars photograph taken by NASA's Curiosity rover in August 2023 has gone viral on social media, with users claiming it shows a mysterious figure resembling a jellyfish or an alien from Steven Spielberg's "War of the Worlds." The image, captured on August 20, 2023, depicts a dusty landscape with rocky hills of the Red Planet's desert terrain.

In the left corner of the frame, a small dark shape is visible, featuring what some interpret as a semicircular body and leg-like appendages. The photo gained traction after a user on X shared the image, pointing out the strange figure. Social media users quickly noted that images taken less than a minute earlier showed no signs of the mysterious object.

Adding to the intrigue, the photograph with the anomaly was the last one capturing that particular landscape. Curiosity's next shot came nearly two hours later, with the camera aimed in a different direction.
