ChatGPT picked 10 books based on a reader's taste: from wrestler memoirs to comics

A tech journalist asked ChatGPT to recommend books based on his personal preferences and received a list of ten titles he plans to read by the end of the year. The experiment was timed to National Book Lovers Day, celebrated in the United States.

The author of the request is into autobiographies of musicians and wrestlers, video game art books, and graphic novels from Marvel, DC, and IDW Publishing. To help the chatbot better understand his taste, the prompt included ten favorite books, among them "Hitman: My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling," "Batman: The Killing Joke," and "The Giver."

ChatGPT was asked to suggest only highly rated works released within the last five years. As a result, it produced ten picks that, according to the journalist, fully match his literary interests. This was not his first experience with neural networks: the author regularly uses ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Claude in everyday tasks.

At the same time, the journalist strongly objected to the practice of some AI companies that cut off book spines for faster scanning when training models. He called it desecration of physical media and said he would never support such methods, even if they benefit technology development. In his words, his love for books remains unchanged, and his collection takes up a dedicated corner of his room.

The final list of ten recommendations came as a pleasant surprise and added to a bookshelf that already includes graphic novels, autobiographies, and historical volumes about his favorite entertainment franchises.
